FAQs
Two primary advantages of opting for a lab diamond are its ethical source and unparalleled value. With a lab diamond, you can be confident that you’re not financing conflicts in vulnerable nations, nor contributing to extensive environmental damage. Moreover, diamonds cultivated above the ground tend to have a purity that surpasses those extracted from the Earth using aggressive methods like dynamite and diesel engines. Lab-grown diamonds often exhibit fewer imperfections and reduced stress in their crystal lattice, making them superior in quality.
n essence, the purer the diamond, the more brilliant and radiant the gem.
A significant portion of our lab-grown white diamonds achieve the esteemed Type IIa purity rating. In contrast, fewer than 2% of mined diamonds attain this prestigious level of purity.
Lab diamonds are assessed by independent gemological groups using the 4Cs: Cut, Color, Clarity, and Carat Weight. Similar to mined diamonds, these lab-grown gems can vary in these criteria, spanning from basic to exceptional quality. It’s essential to note that not every lab diamond is flawless, colorless, and perfect
The classic diamond world, from mines to stores, is getting used to the idea of lab-grown diamonds.
Since natural diamonds have been valued for their rarity, the emergence of lab-made diamonds brings new discussions and thoughts on their place in the market.
Lab-grown diamonds are produced using sophisticated technology, while natural diamonds are extracted from the earth’s depths. Since lab diamonds bypass the costs of mining, ransportation, and artificially limited availability, they aren’t subject to the same high price increases. Essentially, they’re
diamonds that are more affordable for the planet and your pocket.
Two methods are employed to produce lab-grown diamonds: High Pressure High Temperature (HPHT) and Chemical Vapor Deposition (CVD).
The HPHT process mirrors the natural diamond formation that occurs deep within the Earth. Diamonds naturally crystallize when carbon undergoes immense heat and pressure below the Earth’s surface. In the HPHT method, scientists replicate these conditions within a laboratory by subjecting carbon to intense heat and pressure, leading to the creation of lab-grown diamonds.
Conversely, the Chemical Vapor Deposition (CVD) process utilizes natural gases to cultivate lab-grown diamonds. In this method, scientists begin with a small diamond seed, essentially a tiny piece of a diamond. This seed is placed in a sealed chamber filled with hydrogen and methane. The chamber is then heated to a high temperature, often through the use of microwave technology, which activates the gases and triggers the growth of a lab-grown diamond around the diamond seed crystal. It’s worth noting that CVD technology bears a closer resemblance to the natural diamond formation process compared to HPHT.
